The offshore underwater world offers divers appealing dive sites whilst the constant winds that blow around the island allow both beginners and professionals to find an ideal spot to sail or windsurf. The best surfing area is thought to be off the coast of El Médano in the southeast of the island where the wind force ranges from 5 Beaufort in the summer to 8 Beaufort during the winter. Sun worshippers, swimmers and leisure sports enthusiasts will find their own piece of paradise on the golden yellow sandy beach of the idyllic Playa de las Teresitas, which lies in a beautiful bay with Saharan sand to the north of the island's capital.
For mountain bikers, the island's mountains provide a real challenge at the same time as wonderful scenery, the memories of which will be retained forever. Those wishing to explore the island on foot may either do so with one of the guided group tours or alone under their own steam. Sturdy shoes should be worn at all times and sufficient water supplies taken along.
Golf enthusiasts may improve their handicap on one of the many courses that lie amidst the beautiful landscape. Tennis courts are available at most large hotel complexes whilst various facilities and courses are available to all holidaymakers in the south of the island.
