A varied holiday on the island situated far in the east of the Mediterranean where the sun shines 300 days a year and that promises marvellous scenery: mountains, flat sandy beaches and romantic bays on the cliffy coastline characterise this island. Aphrodite is thought to have emerged from a mussel shell here, the beauty of whom can certainly be equalled by that of the island. The clear waters provide great opportunities for bathing, and food will be a wonderfully enjoyable experience thanks to the overly hospitable Cypriots.
Since 1974 the island is split in a northern part with Turkish speaking people and a southern part with Greek speaking people. The majority of holidaymakers visit the southern part, which is officially called Republic of Cyprus.
The 9,000 year history can be directly experienced, for example, at the reconstructed village of Lemba that dates back to the Copper Age, or alternatively within the Venetian city walls of Nikosia and Famagusta. Visitors can but agree with the famous phrase coined by the Greek philosopher and poet Nikos Kazantzakis, "If you were to go to the ends of the earth, you would never find another island like Cyprus".
