An evening is best kicked off in a street café or a small bar whilst visitors may then move on to a restaurant to eat at about 9 pm before heading for the first club at midnight. The large shopping centres, Véronica 1, 2 and 3 are packed with going-out options. Prisma's is especially popular amongst the younger crowd whilst those aged between 25 and 40 head for Macarena, and lovers of Latin American music should definitely pay a visit to the Banana Garden in the Palm Beach Hotel. Gamblers may play roulette, Black Jack or try their luck on the one-armed bandits in Hotel Gran Tinerfe's casino.
There is also a casino on offer in the capital of Santa Cruz, in the elegant surrounds of the Hotel Mencey. The bar and pub district around Plaza de la Paz is highly popular. Nightclubs are mostly to be found in the capital's less central districts.
Those wishing to sample some typical Canary Island dishes should head for the inlands or the coastal areas outside of the holiday resorts. In almost every town with a small harbour here, freshly caught fish is on offer at reasonable prices whilst in the hinterlands, it is mainly hearty meat dishes that are served up. Rule of thumb for the restaurants: if a large numbers of local flock here, the food cannot be bad!
