Night-time revellers will be happiest in the El Batey district of SosĂșa: clubs as High Caribbean, Copacabana, Moby Dick and the Merengue Club offering various opportunities for dancing and partying in the early hours of the morning line the streets. A typically Dominican ambience dominates at the large Casa del Sol dance temple where locals and holidaymakers flock to enjoy the latest hits from around the world.
In the sophisticated resort of Playa Dorada, most hotels boast their own bars and nightclubs. Particularly popular is the Andromeda in Hotel Heaven and the amenities of the Jack Tar Village where, in addition to the Caligula club bar, an amusements arcade promises evening entertainment.
Primarily locals, but also holidaymakers, attempt a little merengue dancing in Tropicana in Puerto Plata. A predominantly young crowd gathers in El Orion Disco in the harbour. The evenings in Cabarete are as uncomplicated as a day on the beach: delicious specialities from the grill are served to good live music by reggae bands at the popular rendezvous location of the New Wave Café. The hottest beats are played twice a week in beachside Las Brisas.
